As one of three earliest departments founded in 2001, the Department of Economics and Trade covers two professional directions of business and international logistics management, the former began to enroll students in 2001. The department has competitive teaching staff, with the features of double language and double qualification. It has four academic groups and a multinational company research center. The existing regular college students number 1,940.
The department takes the “1+N” talent cultivation model as the primary line, aims at forging logistics feature and building branding economy and trade, sticks to the teaching philosophy of equal focus on teaching and research, and synchronized improvement of theory and practice, and builds the talent cultivation model of a foreign language+ profession + skills. In light of diversity of student origins, specialty of teachers, and marketing of the professional directions, scientific, pragmatic, open, and dynamic curriculum system has been built. All the subjects, classified according to vocational needs, are made up of such three modules as language basis, professional basis, and applied skills, which is in tally with the needs for future social and personal development. Also, such vocational skill training courses as logistician, TOEIC, and document clerk on foreign trade are opened to improve comprehensive quality of students and build their strengths in participating in social competition after graduation.
Stars glitter for the mainstream economy and trade, and elite logistics strives for top. As one of the earliest departments of the institute, numerous glorious achievements have been made through the joint efforts of teachers and students. The passing rate for TEM 8 in 2004 was as high as 83.59%, 33 percentage points higher than the national average. In the two succession years of 2005 and 2006, the number of postgraduate candidates exempting from admission examination ranked first in the institute. Zhi Zheng, a student in Class 1, Grade 2002 of the department, was recommended for admission to be a postgraduate without exams at Shanghai International Studies University, and many students have been enrolled as postgraduates by such well-known domestic and overseas universities as Beijing International Studies University, People’s University of China, Sichuan University, Sichuan International Studies University, China University of Electronics Science and Technology, Southwest University of Economy and Finance, Beijing Language University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Sydney University, and Netherlands University since 2006.
