This academic major is offered to prepare versatile personnel with professional skills and a solid foundation in the German language so as to be competent in German listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating. The students are capable to do to the work of translating, studying, teaching, administration in the foreign affairs offices, economic and trade organizations, culture ad education, journalism and the press, scientific research, and tourism departments.
Apart from learning the basic theories and elementary knowledge of the German language, literature, history, politics, economics and diplomacy, and being trained in the skills of German listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating; the students who choose German Studies as a profession must learn the policies, the laws, and regulations of Germany and of China. They must also learn much about German society and culture to be highly competent in the areas of translation, and teaching. They must also master a second foreign language.
Required Courses: German Intensive Reading, German Extensive Reading, German Conversation, German Writing, German Listening, German Translation, German Grammar, German Audio-Visual Comprehension, German Radio Listening,Introduction to German, German Culture and History, and Computer Applications.
Length of Schooling: Four years for the undergraduate program (Bachelor of Arts Degree is awarded to undergraduates.)
