This academic major is offered to prepare versatile personnel with professional skills in Japanese, a solid foundation in the Japanese language, and competency in Japanese listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating. We train capable students to work in translating, studying, teaching and administration in the foreign affairs office, economic trade organizations, culture and education, journalism and the press, scientific research, and tourism and other departments.
Apart from learning the basic theory and elementary knowledge of the Japanese language, literature, history, politics, economics and diplomacy, or acquiring the skills of English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating; the students who choose Japanese Studies as a profession, must learn the policies , laws, and regulations of Japan and of China. They must also know the Japanese culture, society, and they must be competent and strong in the practical abilities of translation, teaching, and administration. It is also required for the students to master a second foreign language.
Required Courses: Japanese Intensive Reading, Japanese Extensive Reading, Japanese Conversation, Japanese Writing, Japanese Listening, Japanese Translation, Japanese Grammar, Japanese Audio-Visual Comprehension, Japanese Radio Listening, Introduction to Japan, Japanese Culture and History, and Computer Application.
Length of Schooling: Four years for the undergraduate program (Bachelor of Arts Degree is awarded to undergraduates.)
