This academic major is offered to prepare versatile men and women with professional skills in English, a solid foundation in the English language, and competence in the areas of English Listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. We train capable students to work in translation, research, teaching and administration within the foreign affairs office, economic and trade organizations, culture and education, journalism and the press, scientific research, tourism and other departments.
Apart from learning the basic theories and elementary knowledge of the English language, culture, history, politics, economics and diplomacy; and being trained in the skills of English listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating; the students who choose Economics and Trade as a profession must know the policies, regulations, and developments of the foreign economy and trade in China. They must be competent to do the work of foreign trade, and they must master a second foreign language.
Required Courses: Comprehensive English (Basic English and Advanced English), English Reading, English Grammar, Oral English, English Listening, English Translation, English Writing, English Interpretation, English Audio-Visual Comprehension, Foreign Radio Listening, and Computer Application.
Main Professional Courses: English for Foreign Trade, Business Administration in Western Countries, International Trade, Imports and Exports, Foreign Trade, Accounting, and International Trade Practice.
Length of Schooling: Four years for the undergraduate program (Bachelor or Arts Degree is awarded to undergraduates.) Three years for a non-degree program.
